This column is to honour a woman in our lives and community or family that are consciously taking significant action towards world peace in whatever ways their spirits guide them.

The following story is about a woman named Evie Pikler. Evie is of European and Asian descent and with such a multi-cultural ancestory it is no wonder her life work has taken her to such heights and depths. I am only able to share with you what I know of Evie.

Evie grew up in a musical family and was encouraged and inspired by her mother and father and a significant uncle to develop her singing talents. This journey eventually took her to Paris where she lived and worked. The beauty she possesses within and without enabled her to experience the modelling world. She met and married an African-American spiritual singer and together the miracle of their love manifested as their beautiful daughter Jesse. Today Jesse and her mum live in Australia. Jesse is now a beautiful young woman who is a successful model herself.

Evie's depth and yearning for answers and healing led her to the indigenous peoples of this land. Here she found the answers within Aboriginal spirituality. At a time when Aboriginal rights, pains and wisdom were being recognised Evie was right there with the original Dreamers. She formed a close bond with a Yuin elder named Guboo (good friend) Ted Thomas whose life work is recognosed as World peace though Indigenous Teachings. Guboo's family also claimed Evie leading her to do women's business with Guboo's wife, Ann Thomas and niece, Mary Duroux. She has also joined Native American, Lakota grandmother Kitty Rasmassen in spiritual work leading her and Mary to share the dreaming in the USA.

Her work now is about women's business and how we relate as women to all aspects of life. I first met Evie10 years ago when she was running, 'Touch the Earth' camps for women and children at Kenilworth. I was searching for spiritual food and what I found at these camps was far more than I imagined.

Evie's understanding of the natural laws, the union of Motherearth, Fathersky and all our relations (this being her own depth nutured and cultivated by her indigenous family and friends) made such an impact on my life. This taught me just how related we really all are.

While camping in the bush we learned how to pray to the four directions and how to invite all the qualities, elements and teachings that are related to each direction (and everything in between) into our daily lives.

The experience gave me the courage to face the dark side and the strength to believe in myself. I learned to respect and honour elders, to recognise how supportive we can be to one another and how to reconcile planetary and family relationship issues. As well as being open to hearing, feeling and helping to heal one another's pains we shared children, food, laughter, joy, sorrow and prayers - all heart opening experiences which deepened the bonds of sisterhood.

Evie has been blessed with a beautiful singing voice and writes songs that speak of love, our Earthmother, the rainforests, men and women - the Circle of life. She has a CD available called Motherearth, Fathersky and is well worth hearing.

When the Great Spirit made Evie He filled her with talents, humour, discipline, love and compassion. No wonder she is loved and respected by so many people.

Evie has taken her work and wisdom into schools sharing the sacredness of nature with children and teaching the importance of reconnecting with the natural world in ways long forgotten in our society.

People like Evie touch many hearts and make a significant presence in the lives of many people. She has written a book called, 'The Four Directions' which is a guide to finding a balance within helping one to find the balance without.

She is a beautiful gifted sister and I thank the Great Spirit for her presence in my life.
